The firm advises its clients to take a pro-active and preventive approach to employment issues, and provides loss prevention, claims-handling and defense litigation support to employers. Services available to the firm’s clients include employment practices audits, comprehensive risk assessment services, employment policy reviews, preventive in-house training for human resource professionals, supervisory and managerial staff, investigation and investigation support services.

When litigation cannot be avoided, the firm works with employers to develop cost-effective strategies for managing litigation of employment practices claims. The firm has successfully defended claims brought under federal and state laws governing unlawful discrimination and harassment in the workplace, retaliation, wage and hour regulations, and workplace safety. The firm also represents employers with respect to common law causes of action, including breach of contract, enforcement of covenants not to compete, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and constructive discharge.

The firm represents employers in the federal and state trial courts in Washington and Alaska, appellate courts in both states, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court, and before various administrative agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the National Labor Relations Board, Washington Human Rights Commission, Seattle Office for Civil Rights, Washington Department of Labor, Washington State Department of Employment Security, Alaska Human Rights Commission, and Alaska Department of Labor - Wage and Hour Division. Its employment attorneys are admitted to practice in federal and state courts in Washington, California, Alaska and Colorado.

The firm is approved panel counsel for a number of EPLI underwriters.
